Glendale Youth Orchestra

The Glendale Youth Orchestra (GYO) is one of Los Angeles County's leading youth orchestras. Our mission is based on the belief that our young people have a better chance of succeeding in their world if they participate in its rich artistic and cultural traditions. GYO provides young musicians age 10–23 from all over Los Angeles with a unique opportunity to play classical music.

California Festival

The Glendale Youth Orchestra (GYO) led by Music Director & Conductor Henry Shin will perform the 35th Anniversary Season Opening concert, debuting a new work by local composer Michael Ramirez as part of the California Festival. The concert also features 2023 Piano Concerto Winner Everett Lee playing Rachmaninoff's Piano Concerto No. 3 and Dvorak's Symphony No. 8.

Program Notes

Michael Joseph Ramirez is a Composition Major currently studying at Pasadena City College. Ramirez crafts his music from influences such as jazz, metal, rock, pop, classical and other styles.

Known for his keen sense of timing, charisma, and leadership, Henry Shin is steadily building a reputation as one of the most versatile conductors of his generation. Beginning with the 2019/20 season, he has embarked on a new journey as the music director and conductor of the Glendale Youth Orchestra. Mr. Shin also serves as Director of Orchestras at Pasadena City College.
