MUSE/IQUE & Pasadena Senior Center

MUSE/IQUE is a member-supported, nonprofit arts organization making radically engaging live music accessible for all. Built on a tradition of community and collaboration, the organization creates events featuring an eclectic mix of artists and artistic disciplines in unconventional locations—spaces where art typically does not happen. By reimagining the traditional format of the live classical orchestral experience, Artistic Director Rachael Worby blends musical performances with researched curation, with a mission to build empathy and expand imaginations through strong partnerships with fellow nonprofit organizations in Pasadena and the greater Los Angeles area.

*Programming and artists subject to change, please refer to the participating organization’s calendar listing for the most up-to-date program.

Program Notes

Says Myron McKinley: "I wrote this work to express the minorities' feelings of struggle and effort to live life while projecting a sense of normalcy. The top layer of the song gives a flowing sense, while the tempo and progression change and alter to give a sense of the internal conflict."

Pasadena Senior Center's mission is to improve the lives of older adults through caring services with opportunities for social interaction, fitness programs, basic support and needs services, education, volunteerism, and community activism. With10,000 people per day becoming seniors, the Center is a leader in addressing the issues of aging and provides innovative, cutting-edge, nationally recognized programs for this population.

The Myron McKinley Trio is a powerhouse group comprising Myron McKinley (piano/keys), Ian Martin (bass), and Stacey Lamont Sydnor (drums/percussion). As journeymen bandmates for some of the greatest groups and artists in music history, these three friends are now collaborating to make music of their own, electrifying live audiences in the United States, Europe, and the Far East.

Sy Smith is a Los Angeles-based singer, songwriter and producer who helped cultivate the nu-soul scene. Her catalog includes five studio albums, all heralded by critics worldwide for Smith’s lyrical dexterity, her vocal whimsy, and her ability to spin a story like few others in soul music.
