Under the baton of Maestro Ivan Shulman, Orchestra Nova LA (formerly the Los Angeles Doctors Symphony Orchestra) is a vibrant musical organization comprised of volunteer and emerging professional musicians, dedicated to offering high-quality affordable concerts to the diverse communities of Southern California. Orchestra Nova LA looks forward to sharing the inspirational and restorative powers of music with our loyal supporters from past years, and with those to come.

Orchestra Nova LA performs a newly revised work by American composer Adrienne Albert. Albert says the lyrical orchestral work "honors the young men and women who have fought so valiantly in the name of our country—from the Civil War to today’s senseless wars."

Adrienne ALBERT

Program Notes

Award-winning composer Adrienne Albert has had her chamber, choral, vocal, orchestral and wind band works performed throughout the U.S. and around the world. Having previously worked as a singer with composers Igor Stravinsky, Leonard Bernstein, Philip Glass, and Gunther Schuller, among many others, Albert began composing her own music in the 1990s. Her music has been supported by the National Endowment for the Arts, American Composers Forum, MTC/ Rockefeller Foundation, Subito Awards, Mu PhiEpsilon Fraternity, ACME, and yearly ASCAP Awards.

Recent commissions includeworks for BBI Trombone Choir, Concord Chorale, the Cornell University Chorus, Holyoke Civic Symphony, Mu Phi Epsilon Foundation, Palisades Virtuosi, Zinkali Trio, Pennsylvania Academy of Music, Chamber Music Palisades and Pacific Serenades.
